There exists a federation under Article 60 et seq. of the Swiss Civil Code (ZGB) under the name "FEDERATION INTERNATIONALE DES ASSOCIATIONS DE TRANSITAIRES ET ASSIMILES", "INTERNATIONALE FÖDERATION DER SPEDITEUR-ORGANISATIONEN" and "INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF FREIGHT FORWARDERS ASSOCIATIONS", abbreviated to FIATA.

The role of FIATA, as the umbrella organisation for the national and regional associations of freight forwarding in the countries of the world, is to protect, promote and coordinate their professional and status interests at international level.

Individual members are forwarding companies or legal persons who are closely related to the haulage industry. The admission and exclusion of an individual member is made by a decision of the Bureau and this decision is final.
